    Re: Latest Region D standings

Talked to my uncle earlier today and he said the coalfield and 93.5 says Clintwood was first in the LDP.
    Any clarification?

This is just standings not Power Points.

    Re: Latest Region D standings

They haven't looked at the standings close enough in that case, buckeye...the way the records (district & overall) shake out show JIB having a 2 game lead in the district and a game in the overall. If Burton nor Clintwood lose before they play each other next week, then the winner of that game will win the district and be automatically in the playoffs and likely have the #1 overall seed due to power points and the district crown. The other may lose the district but still place high enough in power points than 2 other teams (likely Haysi & Twin Springs right now), to host one or the other in the playoffs depending upon who has more points between those two (likely Haysi).

It's also possible if Clintwood wins out, and Burton loses to both Clintwood and GC that the first round of the playoffs in RD/D1 possibly will look like this:

    Haysi @ Burton
    Twin Springs @ Clintwood

All that being if points get precedent over a district championship in a 2/3 seed matchup, if the champ gets homefield over a team w/more points, then Burton would travel to Haysi. If Burton were to beat Clintwood and lose to GC, then Burton would win the LPD and likely get the #1 seed meaning they'd flip-flop in the above scenario.

Remember that Castlewood & Thomas Walker are still very much in the hunt for the Cumberland title and that they could jump and take Twin Spring's spot in the above scenario.

The closest "lock" is Haysi at this point with one game left against Hurley for the BDD crown--but even then, Hurley has all 3 BDD games coming up right here at the end--if they were to beat Haysi, Honaker, and Twin Valley all in a row--they'd win the district and go to the playoffs as a district champ. If Haysi lost to Hurley and Honaker beat Hurley, then it would go to points to see who won the district title & got the playoff berth, I believe.

That was my best shot at the D1 scenario--if someone sees I've made a mistake please correct me...that's how I think it shakes out though. Any assists are welcome.

By the way here are the current power points for RD/D1 from VHSL's site:

    JI Burton 21.7
    Clintwood 21.1
    Castlewood 18.0
    Haysi 17.4
    Twin Springs 15.1
    Thomas Walker 15.1
    Hurley 15.0
    Rye Cove 13.7
    Coeburn 12.9
    Pound 11.3
    St. Paul 10.7
    Appalachia 10.4
    Ervinton 8.3
    Twin Valley 8.1

Points outweigh district championship when it comes to home field advantage.

Yep...district titles guarantee a place in the playoffs but point determine seeding.
...And if you ain't down with that, I got 2 words for ya....

    Re: Latest Region D standings

Couple things that stand out from the rankings to me...

I can't remember Twin Springs being ranked at the top of the Cumberland in recent years, and I can't remember Pound being ranked higher than Powell Valley.

TS last competed for the title when Sarge was there about 4 years ago now I guess.

Who has won the Cumberland District championships over the last 10 years?
